Duo Launcher privacy policy
Effective 23 September 2026. This policy covers the Duo Launcher app and the Duo Google Companion app published from the same source.
Summary
Duo Launcher does not collect, store, or share personal data. It has no account system, no server of its own, no advertising, no analytics, and no automatic crash reporting. Everything the app keeps — your Home layout, settings, and any wallpaper photo you choose — stays on your device.
Data the app uses on your device
- Installed apps. Names, icons, launch activities, and eligible work-profile entries are read from Android to populate Home, the dock, and All apps. They are not sent anywhere.
- Device status. Battery, Wi-Fi, cellular-signal, and airplane-mode readings drive the Home status rail while it is visible. Reading signal strength does not use location.
- Photos. Choosing a launcher background uses Android's photo picker, which grants access to the single image you pick. Duo keeps a private copy on the device and never reads your photo library.
- Location (optional). If you turn on sunrise/sunset appearance, Duo either uses coordinates you type in or, only when you tap Use device location, requests approximate location once. Sunrise and sunset times are computed on the device. There is no background location use, and Clear location deletes the stored coordinates.
- Layout backups. A backup file is created only when you choose Save in Backup and pick a destination yourself. It can reveal installed app names, folder names, and layout preferences. Review it before sharing it.
- Discover diagnostics. Help & setup can show a short technical log of the last Discover attempts. It stays in memory on the device and is shared only if you copy and paste it yourself.
Optional system access
- Accessibility service (shade gestures and double-tap to lock). Android requires an Accessibility service for an app to open the notification shade, Quick Settings, or lock the screen. Duo's service does only that, in response to your gesture. It cannot retrieve window contents, cannot inject gestures, and does not observe other apps. It is off until you enable it in Android's Accessibility settings, and you can turn it off there at any time.
- Display over other apps (floating dock). The optional floating dock draws the launcher's own dock over other apps and launches the apps in it. It shows a persistent notification while on. It does not read or record the content of other apps.
- Uninstall requests. The Uninstall entry in an app's menu asks Android to uninstall that app; Android shows its own confirmation.
Purchases
Duo Launcher is unlocked by a subscription sold through Google Play. Google processes the purchase, the free trial, renewals, cancellations, and refunds under Google's own terms and privacy policy; Duo never receives your name, payment method, or billing address. On the device Duo stores only whether a subscription was active the last time Google Play was asked, and when that was, so the launcher keeps working briefly without a connection. Nothing about purchases is sent to us, because we run no server.
Google Discover and the companion app
Discover is the Google app's own feed, shown over Home through Google's launcher-overlay interface. Google, not Duo, provides that content and applies its own account, network, and privacy settings. The Duo Google Companion is a small proxy that forwards the connection between Duo Launcher and the Google app unchanged; it stores nothing and has no network access of its own.
Data sharing and third parties
Duo Launcher shares no data with third parties. Apps you launch, widgets you place, and the Google app operate under their own policies.
Children
Duo Launcher is a general-purpose launcher and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
Updates to this policy are published with the app's source and release notes. The effective date at the top changes when the policy does.
